What is the meaning of the light purple background surrounding some of my friends’ icons?
Whenever you see your friends with a light purple background (such as the ones above), that means they are online right now!
Why won’t the login screen accept my username?
The username that is required at the login screen is actually the subdomain (as in http://subdomain.gaia.com) name. You can also log in using your primary e-mail address.
Why is there no toolbar on my textbox?
By default, you should see this toolbar on your Gaia Blog text box:
If you don’t see the toolbar, this could be a browser issue. Our site works best with Firefox (a free browser you can get here) with a PC, and Safari with a Mac. We've had some compatibility issues with older browsers, in particular, so make sure you've upgraded to the latest version of whichever one you decide to use.
How do I create my profile?
On your profile page, either click the "Update My Profile" button just below your icon, or the "profile" link under the home tab. Once you’ve filled out your profile, make sure to click the "Update" button at the very bottom or all your changes will be lost (eek!!)
HINT: Instead of typing sentences and paragraphs on the Interests, Heroes, Teachers, Books, Music, and Movies sections, please take the time to sit down, relax, and make a list. Then type them up and separate them with commas. Why? So other members with similar interests can find you!
How do I invite my friends to join Gaia?
Hover the mouse pointer over the "Friends" tab. Then click on "Invite Friends" from the pull down menu. On the "Invite Your Friends to Gaia" page you have two options: Short form or Long form. The short form allows you to add five of your friends’ email addresses. The long form allows you to add as many email addresses as you want by separating them with commas. Once you've entered your friends' email addresses, type in your welcome message and spread the love :)
How do I add a picture to my profile?
Click the "My Photos" button just below your icon, or click "photos" the tab. This will take you to your photos page. From there click on "Upload Photo". Once your photo is uploaded to your photo album, you can make it your icon by clicking the "Make My Icon" button just below the photo.
I forgot my password. Can you make me remember it or is there something else I can do to get a new one?
On the login page, just click the "forget?" link. You’ll be asked for your e-mail address to which a hyperlink will be sent where you can reset your password.
How do I add hypertext in my blog/group/messages and anywhere else the textbox exists?
Highlight the text you would like to use as a link. Then click the "link to" button on your textbox’s toolbar. In the "Link URL" field type the address of the website you are linking to (don’t forget the http:// at the beginning!). Then click the “insert” button.
How do I receive notification when someone has commented on my blog/group, when someone has commented on a blog/group I’ve commented on, or when I receive a message in my Gaia inbox?
Click your "My Account" link on the upper right of your screen.
Under the Subscriptions and Notifications heading, you have the option to edit notifications on Group Discussions, Blogs, Comments on Your Content, and Incoming Mail. Just click the appropriate link to edit.
How do I add people to my friends list or get myself on others’ friends list?
To invite someone as a friend, go to their profile page, and click the "Invite as Friend" link just below their user icon. Once they accept the invitation, you’ll both be in each other’s friends list :)
How do I start a group?
Log in. Go to your profile page and click the "gropus" tab. You’ll be taken to a groups set-up page. From there you can click on "Start a Group" button.
How do I start my blog?
On your profile page, hover or click the "blog" tab. Then click "new entry." Once you are finished typing your blog entry, click the "post entry" button at the bottom.
